Artist Mentor Scheme

The TENG Company’s artistic director Dr Samuel Wong is part of the Artist Mentor Scheme (AMS), an initiative helmed by the Singapore Teachers’ Academy for the aRts (STAR) and supported by the National Arts Council (NAC).

AMS supports collaborations between teachers and local arts practitioners in developing teachers’ competencies in a particular art form in a 3-stage collaborative process:

  1. Learning with Mentor
  2. Learning Alongside Students
  3. Learning Independently

Artists involved in AMS are established, active and respected practitioners in their art form in the field. This scheme is open to all government and government-aided schools. Art and Music teachers as well as teachers in charge of arts CCAs and the Programme for Active Learning (PAL)1 may apply to this scheme.

Objectives
Develop the teaching competencies of Art/ Music/ Drama/ Dance teachers by engaging practitioners in specialised areas to co-teach in these areas (e.g. specific art medium, music traditions etc) to achieve curriculum goals.

Develop the competencies of Art/ Music/ Drama/ Dance teachers to conduct and/or plan their Art and Music Co-curricular Activities (CCA) and the Programme for Active Learning (PAL), through short-term co-teaching arrangements with arts practitionersProvide opportunities for established arts practitioners to mentor teachers in teaching specialised areas of Art, Music, Drama and Dance.
