Singapore, 21 January 2019 – Presented by Confucius Institute–Nanyang Technological University (CI-NTU) and The TENG Academy (TENG), Celebrate: A CI-NTU and TENG Chinese Music Instrumental Grading Examinations Showcase will be held on 27 January 2019 to celebrate another successful year of the examinations. The concert will be held at the Zhong Shen Jian Recital Studio, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre with Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information & Culture, Community and Youth as the Guest of Honour. The concert will feature 11 musicians, showcasing nine different Chinese music instruments from the various grading levels. Ages of the musicians range from eight to 55. These musicians were highlighted from the 2018 grading examinations by their respective examiners. Each musician was auditioned by TENG and selected to perform based not only for their technical abilities but also for their showmanship. The concert will provide a platform for young and aspiring musicians to realise their dreams of presenting a solo performance in a concert setting.

The concert is held to celebrate the grading examinations held in November 2018. The examinations span 16 instruments in the Chinese Orchestra, such as the Guzheng, Erhu, Dizi, Yangqin, Pipa, Ruan, Liuqin, Gaoyin Sheng, Zhongyin Sheng, Gaoyin Suona, Zhongyin Suona, Hulusi, Guanzi, Cello, Double Bass and Percussion. Each instrument’s examinations comprises nine grading levels, Grade One to Grade Eight and a Certificate in Professional Performance at the apex.

The examinations have enabled individuals who are passionate about Chinese music to achieve a form of accreditation that is recognised and accepted by academic and fine arts institutions in Singapore and abroad. TENG hopes that the examinations will continue to further promote the appreciation and education of Chinese music in Singapore and the region.
