The core ensemble of the company, The TENG Ensemble, has been in the Singapore music scene since 2009. Their music has brought them to cities such as Melbourne, Shanghai, Seoul, Manila, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
They currently have over 30,000 follows on Facebook, over 2,000 followers on Instagram and over 5.8 million collective views (Facebook & YouTube) on their online music videos. One of the videos, The Little White Boat, was also shared by Singapore’s Prime Minister on Facebook.
They have been featured on Singaporean and overseas media such as The Straits Time, Lianhe Zaobao, Channel NewsAsia, Time Out, Art Republik, NS Man, Capital 958, UFM1003, BFM 89.9, NTV7, Melody FM, Sin Chew Daily, Oriental Daily News, Prestige, The Peak, Malaysian Tatler, Hong Kong Economic Times and Apple Daily.
By merging popular styles with classical techniques, as well as sounds commonly heard in the present with those in the past, The TENG Ensemble’s music is also able to introduce people who do not usually listen to Chinese instrumental music to the Chinese instruments themselves.
Appealing to an audience beyond the concert hall and the circle of Chinese music enthusiasts, the ensemble’s music connects with a diversity of people, selling out concerts at the Esplanade, including one directed by Singapore’s theatre icon Glen Goei.
