From being the largest Chinese instrumental music accreditor in Singapore to publishing literature on Chinese music and training Chinese orchestras in schools, the company aspires to raise the standards of music performance, creation and appreciation amongst all ages, regardless of their circumstances. A holistic programme that develops young talents aged 21 and below who demonstrate a passion for Chinese music, the Mapletree-TENG Scholarship was established in 2018, and is an ongoing partnership between Mapletree Investments and The TENG Company. The scholarship covers a rigorous training scheme of constant assessments and individual lessons with professional instructors from TENG, as well as performance opportunities.
The TENG Guide to the Chinese Orchestra serves as a one-stop guide for composers, scholars and enthusiasts alike. As the most updated English publication of its kind, the book is a seminal work on instrumentation and orchestration for instruments of the Chinese orchestra.
In partnership with the Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University (CI-NTU) since 2017, TENG conducts the Chinese Instrumental Music Grading Examinations to create a platform for benchmarking Chinese music standards. The personnel of examiners and syllabus creators are renowned musician-educators from Singapore and across Asia. The examination system includes a comprehensive list of 17 instruments catering to candidates who receive their musical training from Chinese orchestras and ensembles in local schools.
TENG offers consultancy and training to Chinese orchestras in schools as part of its efforts to groom the next generation of Chinese musicians. Led by award-winning musician and orchestra conductor Yang Ji Wei, alongside music instructors experienced with teaching young people, Chinese orchestras trained by TENG have consistently clinched Distinctions at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation organised by the Ministry of Education, Singapore.
