Koh Xuan Wen

Cello

Xuan Wen began her musical journey at age 8 with piano studies, achieving a Distinction in her ABRSM Grade 8 practical examination in 2016. She took up the cello at 13, studying under Mr. Gerald Teo, and earned another Distinction in her ABRSM Grade 8 practical in 2017. During this time, she also served as President of the Deyi Secondary School Choir, a leadership experience she holds close to heart.

Xuan Wen has extensive performance experience with both local and international orchestras and festivals. She has performed with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (2018), the Asia-Pacific Youth Symphony Orchestra Festival (Hong Kong and Guangzhou, 2018), the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Orchestra (2018), the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra (2018), the Kids Philharmonic Orchestra (2018), the Philharmonic Orchestra (2019), the Orchestra of the Music Makers (2022), and the Royal College of Music Orchestra (London, 2023). Additionally, she has collaborated with local jazz singer Michelle Poh on several occasions, including her album launches of Multiplicity (2018) and YOLO (2023).

In April 2023, Xuan Wen graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honors), jointly awarded by the Royal College of Music (London) and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore), specializing in Cello Performance under Mr. Leslie Tan and Ms. Gemma Rosefield.

Since graduation, she has taught cello sections in co-curricular programs at various MOE schools, including the Rosyth School Chinese Orchestra, Raffles Girls’ School Chinese Orchestra, and Fuchun Primary String Ensemble. She teaches Cello privately and has also worked as a relief music teacher at Naval Base Primary School and St. Gabriel’s Primary School.

Alongside the cello, piano and singing have been integral to Xuan Wen’s musical journey. She believes deeply in the transformative power of music and to connect people. As a dedicated teacher-artist, she aspires to explore music beyond her classical training and embraces any opportunity to impact lives through teaching and performance.

In her free time, Xuan Wen enjoys reading and listening to diverse genres of music and podcasts, cycling and savoring Japanese food. She is also a cat lover.
